Go Figure - Danbo (2013/09/28)

Among my figurines, only Danbo has known the touch of earth, foliage, rain, concrete, rust, coral, and fur.
Heck, if it hadn't been for the electric parts, I'd have thrown the little trooper underwater as well.

CLOSING THE BREACH: Filipinos succeed where the rest of the world has failed

After the diminishing success of the Jaeger Program and the complete failure of the Anti-Kaiju Wall, the final solution to the kaiju problem came from the developing nation of the Philippines.

"Since time immemorial, our country has been mired in various problems. We figured that if could also share these problems with the kaiju, perhaps their progress would be impeded as well", explained Filipino scientist Juan dela Cruz. "This was the idea that inspired us to come up with OPERATION 'DI MAKAAHON (OPERATION YOU SHALL NOT RISE)."

"With the help of the U.N., we transported half of the population of MetroManila to a floating settlement which was assembled directly above the breach from which kaiju emerge."

"Counting on the Filipino's natural talent for generating trash and clogging waterways, we were able to seal the breach with a pool of refuse which is currently half a kilometer thick and still growing. Since then, no kaiju has been able—or willing—to penetrate this new line of defense."

Island in the Sun (Guam 2013)

A tropical island in the Pacific, with a history involving Spanish, American, and Japanese occupation.

However, unlike the Philippines which was granted independence (again), Guam is still an unincorporated territory of the United States.

Prelude to Toy Photography

After nearly 2 years of exposure to photography, I've noticed that not all of its categories seem to be given the same amount of effort or preparation. In decreasing order of attention, the list appears to be:

  • portrait and event photgraphy
  • landscape, wildlife, and travel photography
  • product photography
  • cosplay (subset of portrait)
  • macro and food photography
  • street photography and sports photography
  • toy photography

I find the relative lack of notable examples for toy photography a bit surprising. Granted, collecting figurines isn't exactly a cheap hobby, but shooting these chunks of plastic is less demanding compared to shooting other subjects.

Diwata

Having enjoyed only 6 hours of sleep from Friday and none at all the night before the event, I had second thoughts about joining the shoot last Sunday. Once I pulled the camera out of the bag though, there wasn't any room left in my mind for fatigue.

It's a tube

At 2,990 Php, this is my most expensive purchase from cd-r king to date.

It could have been worse

This was probably the most eventful shoot I've had to date. Incidentally, this was also the first shoot wherein I went all out with 3 lenses (standard zoom, fisheye, and a Lensbaby) and the flash + Rogue flashbender combo.

Sunshine raining on our parade

Given the weather for the past week and the name of the photography group ("Tropang HABAGAT", lit. "monsoon group"), I was actually hoping for the rare opportunity to shoot some portraits in the rain. What we got instead was an overcast sky followed by a blast of sunshine later in the afternoon.
